Tag, You’re Now a Part of Folksonomy

I have this bad habit of really liking research. I tend to go overboard a bit, mostly because I have one MA in Humanities and am finishing a second one in Library Science. That should be enough explanation as to why I like research. Anyways, I will be writing a paper on something related to cataloging (which is better than actually cataloging since I seriously suck at it). My bright idea was to discuss the implications of folksonomy and tagging on more standardized cataloging and the use of controlled vocabularies. Yes I know most of you have stopped reading already. My goal in this post is to prove that this blog uses tagging not as way to catalog but as a stream of consciousness social experiment.

I have bright ideas but then again I control my tags and no one can else can add any (which means this is no longer a discussion of folksonomy but categorization). Look at the tag cloud on the right, do any of the tags make any sense besides the object the word represents. I mean my biggest tag is coffee, but what does that mean. For my site it means that I like coffee and think it’s an important word to point out. So what will this post be tagged? I think I’m going with research, tag, and folksonomy. I think this may create a loop that will destroy the time space continuum because it makes no sense having a tag called tag. If that’s the case then no one will read this post because it will not exist. Then I would not have to catalog any more books. Sounds good to me.
