Oscar Madness and Why I Actually Sort of Watched
So we get the official listing of all of the categories out and decide to guess who will win, no surprise we like to test our skill at guessing. Here’s the deal. The old lady (I prefer my hot young wife), Uncle Jerry and myself pick our winners and then we wait. This was perhaps the only reason I watched the Oscars, but I’m glad I did for three reasons.
Reason 1 – John Stewart was really funny at the beginning and throughout the show. I have no idea why that matters but at least I got a chuckle every now and then.
Reason 2 – In one of only two unanimous decisions on our part, Once won for best song! I love this film and the music is phenomenal. Seeing them perform was more than I could have asked for (granted not performing any of the Enchanted songs would have been more than I could have asked for). There are few moments that can make you giddy when it comes to the Oscars, but this was it. And then they don’t let Marketa say her thanks, but wait. Our knight in shining armor, John Stewart, saves the day!
Reason 3 – I kicked their collective asses! Oh winning is nice and even better when we actually failed to pick a winner in 3 categories including Best Supporting Actress. The final tally, my sexy wife picked 8 right, Cousin Jerry had 9 right, and I had … wait for it … 13 right. I’m sure my victory gloating will be short lived, but what the hell. Nah nah nah nah nah nah!
The Oscars are in the bag and I am going to make myself a Best Guesser ribbon to wear for the next few days.

If I had subscriptions to every pop culture magazine every produced and a line on my vita that says I teach film classes, I might have done a bit better this year. Yes, you’ve earned the right to gloat, but I want double-or-nothing on next year’s Grammys.
It’s sad that we all were very close except for the weird categories which were just guesses since I have not seen a single one of the foreign films. I was surprised that my guess for sound editing was right on track…lol. It was even more surprising that there were only 3 none of us had. My gloating is now over.
