Bracket Karma

So the Oscar glow has faded and the glow of the NCAA brackets is now over someone else.  That’s right, my wife crushed me in the brackets.  Thankfully neither of us have any teams left for the championship tonight.  After the first day, one side of my bracket had so many teams crossed off that I thought my ink would run out.  A quick glance at my wife’s bracket shows that she picked two regions perfect up until the Sweet 16.  Part of the problem is that I have a soft spot for the underdog.

I really hope Memphis wins tonight, only because they remind me of the old UNLV.  You know, thugs and crooks that can play basketball.  They were charming.  Part of this decision comes from the fact that I am a PSU fan for life, and since their basketball team sucks (along with the game play of the Big 10) I was forced to root for Syracuse basketball.  Anyone familiar with the Orangmen’s MO would know that there are only rare occassions that the NCAA Tournament actually brings joy.  Mostly it brings tears, thank you Richmond.  Essentially, when all else fails I want to see all of the supposed best teams lose.  If I can’t win then no one can.  Since someone has to win, make it a team that shocks the world.

So Memphis isn’t really shocking the world, but a win by them tonight would secure their place in the history of sports.  At least until next year when everyone has forgotten who won this year.  Besides that, the Kansas mascot is the Jayhawk.  Who would root for a Jayhawk.
