I went to see Watchmen, which is a whole other story and will be revealed when I review the film. However, I was interested in the comments people were making in their reviews of the film on Fandango. I just wanted to check when the film was showing but I got sucked into all of these horrible reviews of Watchmen. Granted, some were insightful, but then there were ones like these:

Worst movie I have ever seen. by fan_man

I am not a huge comic book fan, but I can appreciate a good hero movie when I see one…..this one is NOT! The storyline was poorly written, the the plot was…..oh yeah, there wasn’t one. The violence was overboard and quite graphic and the pornographic scenes were just that. The “R” rating is not appropriate, should have been at least NC17. If I had known what this film really was I wouldn’t have waisted my time or money. My recomendation is don’t waste yours.

Well now that helped me. I am absolutely sure that anyone who says that they are not huge comic book fans will not like Watchmen because it is the anti-hero comic book film. But, this reviewer keys in on the fact that an “R” rating was not appropriate. Hmm, was it because of the violence (other films are more violent by far), the sex scene (which was provocative but not really that different from the one in The Reader), or the blue penis? Oh…a blue penis means NC-17. Let’s give this reviewer the benefit of the doubt and move on.

Watchmen by whaleybk

The worst movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bad all the way from the over the top graphic violence to the strangely odd naked blue mans privates! Stayed through the whole thing hoping it would get better. Left disgusted and ill!!! Went with several other friends who all shared this opinion! NEVER NEVER NEVER will watch it again.

Again with the blue mans privates (sic). I never thought a blue penis would be the cause of disgust and illness. And seeing as there is nothing else mentioned except for the violence I have a feeling that perhaps this reviewer has an issue with Smurfs.

WATCHMEN by THETHREEGREENS

I went with my husband and 14 yr old son. I couldn’t wait to get the heck out of the theatre. I didn’t like it whatsover. Its definatley for the male sex. I thought the story line was very boring and somewhat confusing. Wish I went shopping instead of going to the movies.

This is one of the ones that starts bothering me, a 14 year old in an R film. Now this reviewer does not mention any problems with this so I guess that means that they had a long talk to their child about the content of the film.

Watchman review by mahonyus5

My kids thought this film was awful.

Seriously, that’s your review?

One of the worst movies EVER by Allpwrfull

This has got to be the worst super hero movie ever made!! I knew there would be some violence but this was NOT a kids movie at all. I thought that it would be a typical super hero movie, NOT! The story line drug on and on. Me, my husband and 3 boys got up half way through and left. My boys said they hated it!! I was sorry I took us to the opening midnight showing!!

You’ve got to be kidding me, I’m noticing that way too many people took kids to this film.

watchman TERRIBLE!! by cdh212

This was an AWFUL movie. My husband and I could hardly stand to sit through it until the end. It was WAY too long and it just dragged on and on. You find yourself hanging in there waiting to finally ‘get it’ and it just never delivers. Sorry, for all of you people who say it’s really a great movie, my husband and I feel extremely let down. It was dark, gory and pornographic. The theater was jampacked too, and we felt very sorry for all of the children (yes, children) who were in the audience. It was difficult to follow and as hard as I tried, (we grew up in the 60′s), we just didn’t really; and our hearts go out to those poor little kids who were in there too! With ‘role models’ like these types of movies, no wonder the morality of our children is lacking. This movie should go in the toilet. Don’t waste your hard earned money on it (believe us!) And at the very least, please, do not let your children see it.

You feel bad for the kids? Oh this is just pissing me off now. It’s rated R, how about feeling bad for the parents who are ignorant and take their kids not knowing what to expect. I really give up with this whole idea that this film is over the top. Of course it is!

I would like to take this opportunity to explain that other countries have no problems with films where there is nudity and/or graphic violence. They believe that responsible film goers will make responsible decisions about viewing films that may not be appropriate for younger children. The film is rate R, and dammit that means you better be prepared for nudity and violence. If you are okay with explaining to your children why that man has a blue penis then by all means, have fun. But the next time I hear someone say that this was inappropriate for an R rating or that they brought their kids, I’m going to tell them to shut up. There were more disgusting parts to Meet the Spartans, and at least Watchmen had a firm basis in the graphic novel – which by the way was even perhaps more graphic.

So that’s my rant and why I should never read the Fandago reviews of any film. It just ticks me off.
